This series explores the microscopic features of life hidden to the naked eye. Psychology taught me how the brain and the chemistry of our bodies define who we are; lab work showed me the microscope as a way of seeing the building blocks that make us what we are.
Fifty photographs, printed on 20 × 20 cm canvases, hang close together in a 5 × 10 grid against a black wall: plants, animals, insects, bacteria and humans, each seen from the inside and from the outside.
The work is inspired by Katharine Dowson and the art-and-science movement, and by an old question. From Socrates to Freud to Bruce Hood's idea that the self is an illusion: can we ever truly know thyself?
