The series explores the microscopic features of life hidden from the naked eye. My investigation into this microcosm is part of a process of self-discovery, in an attempt to capture the tangible essence of our existence. I was able to see the tiny particles constituting the building blocks of life, revealing the beauty of the physical world making up what we are, and which form the basis of our mental processes making us who we are.
This art piece is inspired by the cutting-edge art and science movement. I choreographed the images around the eyepiece reticle because I wanted to recreate the authentic experience of looking at the samples through a microscope. The individual samples in the series are purposely not labelled, as I wanted to captivate the audience with the sheer beauty and mystery captured in these images of the raw components of life. The images are divided into five categories: plants, animals, insects, bacteria and humans, which are seamlessly arranged side by side in columns of two. Within each category, one column shows photographs of the inside of an organism and the other, photographs of the outside of an organism.
Some of the images evoke patterns that we see at a macro level, such as lunar landscapes or the universe. The samples I have obtained are commonplace and familiar to all of us, but none of us is used to seeing them magnified to this degree of detail. My artwork seeks to actively engage the audience to identify the nature of the samples based on their own experiences, trying to identify the pieces of the puzzle that make our universe. Each of us will have our own answer to these questions, but for me, each piece of the puzzle has its own unique properties, and when set together it gives shape to the wonderful diversity that is life. It is a reminder that depending on what angle we look at something, it changes and influences what we see.
